Staying close to Our Lord this Holy Week

Holy Week is upon us. I’m sure I say this every year but it really is hard to believe that Lent is almost over and Easter Sunday is in sight. Sometimes we can arrive at Holy Week feeling like we’ve lost a bit of the stamina we had six weeks ago, and thus end up feeling a little deflated; like we could have done a bit better. But don’t lose heart - the race isn’t over yet! As St Irenaeus said “God’s power is shown most perfectly in weakness.” We still have time to accompany Him this week.

We’ve put together a few resources to help you in this last final stretch of Lent, to stay close to Our Lord, so as to really celebrate on Easter Sunday!

Holy Week

First up, is an episode from our very own podcast giving an overview of Holy Week. Máire and Catherine explain what Holy Week is, why it’s important and what we can do to enter into the Gospel scenes.

If you’d like a more detailed dive into the Scripture of Holy Week, check out this talk from Dr. Brant Pitre on Formed. He covers Palm Sunday through to Holy Saturday.

Holy Thursday

On Holy Thursday, we have the opportunity to focus on the love Jesus shows us through the Eucharist and it’s a special day to pray specifically for our priests. This podcast from the St. Josemaria Institute is a really beautiful reflection on how limitless that love is.

Good Friday

Traditionally this day is to focus on the Cross and many of us are used to praying the Stations of the Cross as a way of accompanying Jesus in His final hours. Something extra we could add this year is to consider the final words Jesus speaks before his death, which is often known as “The Seven Last Word of Jesus.” This article has some excellent meditations on those words from Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen.

And finally a video from Called to More on some ways we can meditate on Christ’s Passion. A great watch!

Wishing all our readers and listeners a blessed Holy Week and a Happy Easter.
